Life- unending conflict between being and to-be- evolved solutions to tackle this

I read this beautiful concept of "conflict between being and to-be" from one of the discourses of J. Krishnamurty (JK). So, its not my idea,, however, this piece of my mind will be my interpretation/analysis of this concept.

As I read through many of the famous articles/ speeches/ discourses spanning different eras of mankind, spanning different religions/schools of thoughts. ( I am humbly accepting some reading I did and not boasting about what I read..hope that makes sense). So, when I was reading thro all these and constantly one thing that came out strikingly is "living the moment", "the importance of being with urself"..different gurus/authors articulated it in a different way, some called it "power of now", some called it "observing the breathe"; etc etc. I started thinking the rationale behind this very concept of "now". The past (days when I read JK) gave reasoning to the present. All these compassionate souls are just trying to enable us to win this conflict, some by preaching physical practices, some by mental/spiritual practices and some by performing rituals.

However, I feel that human (rather human brain) has a natural inclination to be in "Present". This natural inclination made human to discover different ways that enables him /her to enjoy the moment. Here I am, to analyze this..another guru hahaha :-)

The conflict:
As JK says, we always separate out our "being "and "to-be". We want to-be something else and neglect our being. So, when there is a division or separation, there is a conflict. We are actually living this conflict, trying to balance on the edge of the chaos. unfortunately, the state of to-be is always "yet-to-be-attained" and "being" is far from it. Human has, long back, discovered ways to overcome this natural conflict. I have tried to enlist a few.

Ways to win this conflict:

Various Forms of art:

This is one of those excellent solutions that human has discovered. In all these forms of art, be it dance, music, singing, painting, pottery, writing etc. the performer and the audience are bound to the moment. The performer or artist is deeply involved in creating the body of art and presenting it, where as, the audience are deeply involved in appreciating the art. In the whole process, every human involved is "living the moment". I think, that is why everyone appreciates some form of art, because it allows your brain to appreciate the present moment.

Prayer:/Rituals:
This solution involves some physical/mental activity that affects your mental state. Prayer/Rituals create a serene ambiance that allows you to love the present moment. Importantly, the performer and the guide (in the case of rituals-priest) are so deeply involved in the process that they forget everything but the activity at hand. All these activities, like saying some verses, singing carols/songs, cleaning idols, offerings etc. ensure that you are just "there" in the present.

Physical practices:
Partly, this includes some rituals that involve physical activity. Beyond that, here I want to stress more on the activities/practices that concentrate more on the physique. Like, Yoga, Sports and games etc. These activities ensure that you are totally concentrating on the process with a goal in mind. Sometimes fear of not achieving that goal also forces the human to be present in the present :-)

Now, as I was writing this, I realized that there are some other activities that are liked by humans because they "seemingly" allow the person to live the moment. The best examples are watching movies/TVs; alcohol, narcotics etc. These activities simulate the essence of being in the present, however, we are far from that as we are actually not consciously doing that and also I think it is something that is being forced externally into the brain..(makes sense :-) )..

so, when we experience these "solutions", we feel that we are very happy. You know what, we are actually being natural... and I think that is the natural state of human...JOY. Unfortunately, now we are unable to achieve our natural states Just go ahead and accept these solutions as our natural ways to reach our nature (heheeh)- and enjoy the state of Joy...

Hi da Gulti... let me add a nother dimension to ur statement :-). Hope you don't mind. To understand about the naturality in 'present' thing read Chapter 9.'Arrow of time' in A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME by Stephen hawking (5-6 pages, esp.Cup example & life example). and also about "Weak Antrhopic theory".
