Happiness-Externalized
Sometimes you feel that suddenly various dots are getting connected and lots of things make sense at once. One such moment made me to pen down this piece. (People reading my blog will get the context once I publish another article. ) .
Ok, let me start from the root of this thought. I was just thinking why do we at all be sad and what can be remedy for this ( the why s and the What s). When I was thinking of a solution for not being sad or say, for being happy, I suddenly realised that my search was focused externally. I mean, I was searching for an external event, external cause, external reason. So, in short the source of my happiness was external to me, say an event. An event that is totally not in my control and unpredicatable, so it seemed very illogical to me. Also, these events that make us happy are highly variable across time and space. What makes us happy in one coordinate may not make us happy in another.... Then I realised how vulnerable our happiness is, when the source is not you, but something else.
Then, I remember (reading J. Krishnamurti..some book) the words " sorrow is because there is a gap between the "being" and "to-be" " . This hiatus causes the internal conflict and stress. And, when this being and to-be are tightly bound to some external events like your career, your realtionships, then your happiness is very fragile.
So, we need to search the source of our happiness that is internal to us, that is tightly coupled with "self" and that is part of you. May be this is what is called "soul searching" .. I dont know... is this the path to "realization" ...Lets think... this does nt end here.......

Interesting piece..Shiva you seem to be in the right direction atleast from a spiritual point of view. The most advanced forms of Indian (rather Hindu) philosophies seem to gravitate to this very point..Happiness/sorrow, pleasure/pain and all the worldly dualities arise from our "external vision" that is dictated by our sensory organs.
However, the ultimate truth..that is free from duality (advaitha) is achieved through inner vision and is the source of ultimate happiness and bliss...do u know why we are forced as children to meditate or do yoga..to prepare us well and early for this effort!
Dunno if i digressed..but hey your article provoked a response!
